AP Testing Information

2026 AP Exam Registration Information
Registration will open on September 10, 2026 and close on October 24, 2025
The Advanced Placement Program (AP) offers students the opportunity to take college-level courses and exams in high school, with the potential to earn college credit and/or advanced placement in courses at many colleges and universities in the US and around the world. The AP

Exams administered in May are standardized exams designed to measure how well students have mastered the content and skills of a specific AP course. Most AP courses have an end-of-year paper-and-pencil exam, but a few courses have different ways to assess what you’ve learned—for example, AP Art and Design students submit a portfolio of work for scoring. The exam schedule is provided by the College Board. Prior to registration, please review the Exam Terms & Conditions.

Registration Deadlines

  • Courses beginning in August- exam registration will end at 12:00pm on Friday, October 24th.
  • GAVS Courses beginning in January- exam registration will end at 12:00pm on Thursday, February 19th, but will be subject to the $40 late fee charged by college board.
  • In order to avoid the $40 late charge, GAVS classes should register for AP exams in the window ending on October 24th.
  • No changes or adjustments to exam orders will be processed after Friday, February 28th.
  • Exam Registration Instructions
  • In order for the AP Coordinators to submit an exam order for students, all students must register for AP exams online in BOTH the My AP platform AND Total Registration. Exams will only be ordered once students have completed both steps below.

AP Exam Registration: In-Person AP Courses

  • All students must register for AP exams online. Siblings must register separately. Each student needs their own individual registration.
  • The AP Exam registration is a two step- two website- process again this year.
  • STEP 1: Students should have already enrolled into their AP course on the College Board (CB) website(My AP platform), using a join code provided by the teacher.
  • If a student needs a join code, please contact your teacher or the AP Coordinator at your school.
  • Students MUST keep up with their CB account login information. Schools do not have access to student accounts.
  • Students MUST indicate in each AP course on the College Board website whether they will take the exam in May or not, by changing the Order Exam status from “Undecided” to “Yes.” Link to the College Board website: https://www.collegeboard.org/
  • STEP 2: College Board does not collect exam payments; it only collects the exam order information from students. Therefore, students will also need to login to/create their Total Registration account to make payment.
  • Total Registration is used each year to pay for PSAT and AP exams. Students should use the same account and login information for all exams. If students already have a TR account, they should look for the “Have you previously registered? Login here.” link on the TR home page.
  • If a student does not have a TR account, they must create an account. It is important for accounts to be created with the student’s email account. There is a separate place for parents to record their email address so they may receive notifications.
  • Be sure the student’s personal information and email are the same as those used in the student’s MY AP College Board account. Link to the TR website: https://user.totalregistration.net/AP/110922

AP Exam Registration: GAVS or FVA, Independent Study (SFHS Students ONLY)

  • Students taking online AP courses will follow the same two steps outlined above, but they must link two join codes to their College Board account.
  • The first join code supplied by the online FVA/GAVS instructor is entered in their College Board
  • account to access resources. This first join code does not order the exam.
  • In their Total Registration account, students will register for an "independent study" exam and pay for the AP exam through your base school’s Total Registration website.
  • Students will receive an " Exam Only" second join code on the Total Registration confirmation
  • page under “Account History.” This join code allows you to register for an 'Exam Only' section in the My AP platform, where you will select "yes" if you wish to take the exam.

Contact the AP Coordinator at your base school with any exam ordering questions.
Virtual students will report to their base school on their exam day(s) for testing.
For 2025 Testing, the College Board charges $99.00 for each exam. In addition, students will pay a one-time administrative fee each year to offset the cost of testing materials, substitutes, etc. All high schools in Forsyth County charge a one-time fee of $25.00 regardless of how many exams a student takes. The cost for exams will be as follows:
1 exam = $124.00 (includes the exam fee of $99.00 plus a one-time administrative fee of $25.00)
2 exams = $223.00
3 exams = $322.00
4 exams = $421.00
5 exams = $520.00
Late Registration & Cancellation of Exams
Is there a late registration period and how much is the late fee?

For courses that begin in August, students will be assessed a $40 late registration fee on/after October 22nd. This fee is charged by the College Board and cannot be canceled by the school.
For online courses that begin in January, students will be assessed a $40 late registration fee, unless they register in the fall window which closes on October 24th. This fee is charged by the College Board and cannot be canceled by the school.
Can I cancel my exam?
For courses that begin in August:

  • Students that order an exam by the October 24th deadline can cancel exams until November 14, 2025 with no charge.
  • Cancellations after November 14 will not be refunded in full. The College Board will only refund $57 per test after November 14, 2025. The $25 administrative fee is non-refundable.
  • No changes or adjustments to ANY exam order will be processed after February 28th.

STEM Exams
AP Biology AP Chemistry AP Comp Sci A AP Statistics
AP Calc BC AP Calc AB AP Physics 1 AP Physics C: Mech
AP Physics C: E&M AP Precalculus AP Comp Sci Prin AP Physics 2

  • Students enrolled in STEM classes will be allowed to take their first AP STEM exam at a reduced cost.
  • STEM students will only pay the administration fee of $25.00. Approval for all registrations that include a STEM exam will be required; therefore, STEM students cannot pay for exams at the time of registration.
  • Students must indicate at the time of test registration that they are taking a STEM exam to receive the $99.00 credit. As students register for exams in Total Registration they will be asked if they are taking at least one STEM exam. This is called a “special waiver.”
  • Once students indicate they are taking a STEM exam, the registration is paused so that the school can verify this information. After the fee waiver is verified, TR does NOT notify students that they may now proceed with registration and make payment.
  • Students need to go back into their TR accounts within 48 hours of initial registration to check on the status of their registration and make payment.

The College Board charges a restocking fee for unused exams. Students who order an exam but do not take the exam (no-show) may be required to pay the $40 restocking fee.

Financial Assistance
Students who have applied and met Federal Free/Reduced Lunch (FRL) criteria will receive up to two exams free of charge. They may receive additional exams at a reduced rate. When qualifying students register for exams, they are asked if they meet Free/Reduced Lunch criteria. If the student indicates that they do meet Free/Reduced Lunch criteria, the registration process is paused until this information is confirmed by the school. Students who are part of the FRL program may provide an acceptance letter they received from Forsyth County Schools. If they need another copy of the letter, they can request a copy of their letter from Sandra McKinzie (smckinzie@forsyth.k12.ga.us).
