Opens: January 22 @ 8:00 AM
Closes: January 30 @ 4:00 PM
The information you submit during this window helps us build next year’s master schedule. If requests are not submitted by January 30, we may not be able to guarantee a spot in your preferred classes. Take your time, discuss as a family, and make thoughtful submissions to avoid delays or errors.
NEW FOR THIS YEAR: Once schedules are released in July, SFHS will not accept requests to change elective courses. Schedule changes will only be considered in cases where a student is academically misplaced in a core class.
For this reason, please review your course requests carefully now and be sure they:
-
reflect your genuine interests,
-
account for all summer plans, and
-
support a course load that promotes a healthy school–life balance.
Step 1 – Review Core Recommendations
Log in to Student/Parent Portal > More > Course Registration > South Forsyth High School to view the core courses recommended by your teachers.
Step 2 – Select Electives
Choose electives until the progress bar shows 28/28 units (even if some are placeholders). Use the “Add Course” button to search and add requests.
- If “Course History” appears, you’ve already taken that course—choose another.
- Electives that are not visible for you to select may require an application or prerequisites. Keep adding electives that you can choose. See the additional steps below for instructions on requesting electives that are not visible.
- Add at least 3 alternate electives in case your first choices don't fit in your schedule and/or your application for an application-based course (see below) was denied. If no alternates are selected, we will place you in available classes.
- Seniors: To request IE2 period(s) in your schedule, please use the following as your guide: Yearlong = y / Semester = s
- Examples:
- 7th period IE2 (semester) → IE27s
- 7th period IE2 (yearlong) → IE27y
- 1st period IE2 (semester) → IE21s
- 1st period IE2 (yearlong) → IE21y
- Please Note: 9-11th grade students must have a full class schedule (7 classes).
Step 3 – Course Waivers
To request a change to a teacher-recommended course, complete the Course Waiver Request Form. Examples include:
- Waiving up in same course (on-level → Honors/AP)
- Waiving down in same course (Honors/AP → on-level)
- Switching courses due to summer plans*
- Examples:
- Spanish III (over summer) → AP Biology (in schedule)
- Health/Personal Fitness (over summer) → Intro to Software Tech (in schedule)
- Dual Enrollment US History (over summer) → AP Statistics (in schedule)
- Advancing to the next level of a course by completing its prerequisite over the summer*
- Examples:
- Intro to Healthcare → Essentials of Biotech, because IHC will be taken over the summer
- Algebra C&C → Geometry C&C, because Algebra C&C will be taken over the summer
- Switching courses due to taking an 8th period class*
- Seniors must have graduation requirement classes in their SFHS schedule. They are not permitted to take these courses as an 8th period.
- Examples:
- American Lit → AP Physics, because American Lit will be taken outside the SFHS schedule as an 8th period class
- Switching to another course for which you are eligible
- Examples:
- Band → Visual Arts 1
- Intro to Software Technology → Foundations of Engineering
- AMDM → Statistical Reasoning

Step 4 – Educational Setting Changes (if applicable)
After completing prior steps, you may request changes to where you’ll take a course for 2026–2027. Important Reminder: Students must leave school property during any Virtual and/or Dual Enrollment periods in their schedule. Therefore, make sure transportation is arranged before making these requests.
- Virtual

- Lit & Comp II → Forsyth Virtual Lit & Comp II
- Dual Enrollment
- Examples:
- American Gov → DE POLS 1101
